The Publication
As a developmental journalism publication/magazine publishing online and off-line, Construction & Engineering Digest (CED) Magazine engages in developmental communication, focusing on issues around engineering, construction, infrastructure, business, oil and gas, real estate and exhibitions, and has a penchant for long-form creative nonfiction/reportage, project management and capacity building.
While standing out as Nigeria’s pioneer and preeminent built environment magazine, CED Magazine’s reach extends far beyond Nigeria’s built environment but also reach global audience via the on-line digital edition.
Job Description
Responsible for formulating and designing marketing plans, prospecting and securing advertisement for our publications as well as pitch benefits of advertising to client, negotiate prices, and explain why client needs to advertise. Develop marketing strategy, editorial content for effective implementation.
The Candidates
Individual with exceptional communication, organizational and analytical skills.
Must possess a minimum of HND, B. Sc. Mass Communication, Marketing, Business Administration, or any social science discipline
Must have at least 3 years’ experience in marketing and must have worked with other magazines/journals/newspapers before.
Must be a good writer, proficient in both spoken and written English.
Must be social media savvy.
Primary responsibilities
Perform cold calling to get the attention of possible clients.
Visit businesses to inquire about advertising prospects and possible industry reports.
Sell ad space.
Present different options to client, including images, designs, and font sizes.
Build relationships with clients.
Understand the needs of the industry and each client.
Know all advertising and marketing communication options.
Keep abreast of changes within the publication’s demographics.
Use statistics in sales and marketing pitch.
Perform extensive research on clients and competitors and their needs.
Convey advertising changes and discrepancies to production department.
Perform research on trend analysis.
Generate revenue for print products
Make sales and marketing presentations.
Handle incoming inquiries industry trends that could lead to sales.
Present sample advert materials to the client.
Staff Writers/Reporters
The Position
We also have vacancy for writers/reporters to cover construction, engineering, infrastructure, project management, oil and gas, business of contracting and capacity building in the built environment sector. This is a unique opportunity to write/report for a highly respected brand on an area of the developmental journalism undergoing unprecedented change.
The successful candidate will be responsible for reporting and writing news and features covering construction, engineering, infrastructure, oil and gas, and building industry contacts, with some international travel as may be necessary. There will be opportunities also to work on video and audio broadcasting.
The position offers an opportunity to talk regularly to senior industry figures both in the public and private sector, and to cover the issues of greatest strategic importance to their business.
The Candidate
The role will suit a candidate who is interested in developing an in-depth understanding of technically complex areas.
Must possess a minimum of HND, B. Sc. Mass Communication, Marketing, Business Administration, or any social science discipline
Skills/Attributes Required:
Developmental Journalism experience is essential
A good knowledge of construction, engineering, the built environment and the contracting markets
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Excellent organisational skills and ability to prioritise a busy workload
