Two persons were feared killed after a three-storeyed building under construction collapsed at Uratta, in the Owerri North Local Government Area of Imo State.
Those reportedly killed were said to be the security guards in charge of the site.
One of them was identified as Okechukwu Eze, while the second victim could not be identified as of press time.
The bodies of the duo had yet to be found as the search for their remains was still ongoing as of the time of filing this report.
A resident told our correspondent that the building collapsed due to use of substandard building materials.
The site engineer was alleged to have fled immediately the building collapsed.
When our correspondent visited the site, four workers were seen straightening squeezed iron rods.
One of them, who gave his name as Taiwo, said, “We were hired to separate and straighten the rods.”
Efforts by our correspondent to reach the Owerri North Divisional Police Officer, Gregory Onu, were not successful as his telephone lines were not reachable.
