TPL. NKIRU CHINWEUBA TAKES MANTLE OF LEADERSHIP AS THE PIONEER CHAIRPERSON OF THE ASSOCIATION OF WOMEN TOWN PLANNERS (AWTPN) ANAMBRA STATE CHAPTER

The Association of Women Town Planners in Nigeria (AWTPN) Anambra State Chapter recently converged in Awka the State Capital for the first time ever for the Inauguration of the Association and Investiture of its pioneer chairperson and her Executives, with the lecture Titled “Enhancing The Operation Of Physical Planning In Anambra State: Need For Inclusive Governance With Women Town Planners” delivered by the patron of the association Tpl. Dr. Azuka Francis Onweluzo, FNITP, MRTPI, who also declared the ceremony open.


In her goodwill message The National Chairman AWTPN Tpl. Bello Risikat, FNITP who was ably represented by the South East Regional adviser, Tpl. Dr. Ijeoma Onyejekwe urged, the AWTPN Anambra State Chapter to work in tandem with the Association Creative Development goals. Other notable dignitaries at the event the director of town planning, ministry of Lands Tpl. Ifenyinwa Onyeji also gave a keynote address urging the women to ensure unity and outstanding performance in all they do towards enabling a sustainable environment. The Hon. Commissioner Ministry of lands, Prof. Offonze Amucheazi (SAN) delivering his good will message said that his Excellency the Governor of the state Prof. Soludo is determined to ensure that all town planning standards are implemented in collaboration with all relevant stakeholders in the built environment.


During the inauguration proper the following officers were inaugurated to serve in the State chapter with their port folios: Tpl. Nkiru Chinweuba: Chairperson; Tpl. Adaeze Iloerika: Secretary; Tpl. Lovina Okeke: Assistant secretary Tpl. Stella Nnachor: Treasurer; Tpl. Uchenna Odumodu: Financial secretary; Tpl. Queen Calista Sidney-Nnebue: Public Relation PRS.
Tpl. Nkiru Chinweuba in her inaugural speech maintained that the AWTPN Anambra State Chapter will continue to raise and sustain public awareness on the gender perspective in planning for a better outcome and impact through efficiency in the State.
On the cause of the event awards were given and the recipients of each were: Tpl. Val Ezenwa, FNITP; Tpl. Dr. Azuka Onweluzo, FNITP; Tpl. (Engr.) Sylvanus Onwuekwe, FNITP. Other awardees include Tpl. Chinwe Josephine Akujieze; Tpl. (Mrs.) Ngozi Atisele; Tpl. (Mrs.) Ifenyinwa Onyeji.
The participants at the inaugural ceremony observed that gender bias in planning is an issue that needs urgent attention. Others include lack of integration of sister professionals in planning corporately, Lack of clear and enforceable guidelines on conduct among members, inadequate collaboration with stakeholders and lack of openness in decision-making are some of the issues militating against growth of the profession.
The following recommendations were given: inclusiveness in planning, the bane, collaborating with stakeholders in the built environment. Providing clear and enforceable guidelines, all decisions must be made in orderly and open fashion and members should be encouraged to work together to avoid disunity.
Conclusively, the Association of Women Town Planners (AWTPN) Anambra State Chapter submit that the core values of the association which are Professionalism, Integrity, Accountability, Inclusiveness, Partnership and Team Work must be maintained in all fronts.
The vote of thanks was taken by the Secretary AWTPN Anambra State, Tpl. Adaeze Iloerika where she thanked the inaugural/investiture committee for their commitment and resilience towards the success of the event.
