Engr. Mrs. Aishatu A. Umar, FNSE, FNICE, the 16th and the first female National Chairman of  Nigerian Institution of Civil Engineers (NICE) is indeed a remarkable Engineer with a mission

Engineer Aishatu A. Umar born in Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa State in 1971, started her educational career at central Primary school Hong before proceeding to Government Science Secondary School for her secondary education.

    She is an alumnus of University of Maiduguri, where she obtained both her Pre-Degree and Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering. She went on to further her education in Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile- Ife, where she procured her Post graduate Diploma in Management, and her Master’s Degree also in Management, in Nigeria Turkish Nile University Abuja.

    Engineer Umar began her working career as a student, working with Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation and with A.G Ferero Building Construction Company Limited, Abuja respectively, as an industrial trainee. And as a serving corp. member, she worked with Jos Metropolitan Development Board (JMBD) Plateau.

    Post- graduation, she has worked as a Project Engineer at Industrial and Engineering Limited (IGEL),Abuja, between February and July 1998, a supervising Civil Engineer at Aso RIV Consult, Abuja, between July and September 1998, a Civil Engineer at Federal Housing Authority, Civil Engineering Department, Abuja, a supervising Civil Engineer at Lugbe FHA Estate on completion of Building Structures and Civil Infrastructure and also Gwarimpa 11 Estate Supervising Civil Infrastructure, a Principal Engineer at Federal Housing Authority in 2005.

    Presently, Engineer A.A Umar works with Federal Housing Authority a Chief Civil Engineer (2011-till date). Over the years, she has been involved in the supervision of Civil Infrastructures, Roads, Culverts, Drainages and Building Structures in Gwarimpa 11, Lugbe FHA Estate, and presently Apo site, Abuja.

    As a active member, Her contributions across unquantifiable times, knowledge and resources to the growth of engineering profession, especially in the Nigerian Society of Engineers, are through participation and attendance in various courses, international and national seminars and conferences on Engineering.

    Engineer Umar is the pioneer and current chairman- Nigerian Society of Engineers(NSE) GIRI branch, Past Publicity Secretary and Current Treasurer – Nigerian Society of Engineers(NSE) Abuja branch, Current Deputy National Chairman (NICE),to mention but a few.

    She is the first female Engineer to create an NSE branch, which is Giri branch, Abuja, the first female Engineer to be a fellow in three (3) professional recognized body in Nigeria; FNSE,FNICE and FCAI. She is also the first female Deputy National Chairman and National Chairman Elect of Nigerian Institution of Civil Engineers (NICE), in Nigeria.

    She is indeed a remarkable Engineer as her mission to NSE is solely dedicated to the provision of quality services aimed at enhancing professional competence and development of its members at all times.

Engineer Aishatu Aliyu Umar is currently studying at Nigeria Turkish University, Abuja, for a PhD in Management. She enjoys reading, travelling and table tennis. She is married with five children.
