LASG URGES IKORODU COMMUNITY TO APPROACH APPEAL TRIBUNAL ON LAND USE CHARGE ISSUES

The Lagos State Government has urged residents of Ikorodu Local Government Area to resolve their complaints/disputes on Land Use Charges through the Land Use Charge Assessment Appeal Tribunal (LUCAAT).

The Registrar of LUCAAT, Mrs. Olayinka Oyegunle, gave the advice during the annual interactive session with leaders of the Community Development Committee (CDC) in Ikorodu.

She highlighted the functions of the tribunal and its free accessibility to all residents of the various communities in Ikorodu, adding that it was established in August 2011 to serve as a platform where property owners could ventilate their grievances in respect of Land Use Charge (LUC) assessments and other related matters.

Oyegunle called on anyone with unresolved issues regarding the assessment or payment of their LUC to approach the Tribunal for assistance free of charge, enjoining all community leaders to encourage their members to take advantage of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s gesture of the 15% early payment discount of Land Use Charge.

The Registrar averred that the Tribunal can be accessed in various ways, adding that apart from walk-ins and writing of petitions, Property Owners can initiate complaints via telephone calls, Whatsapp messages or emails.

She also urged Community Leaders to encourage residents to pay the land use charges to avoid being culpable as the Land Use Law, 2020 makes provisions for penalties resulting from non-compliance.

Decrying the incessant attacks on Government Officials in the course of distributing LUC Demand Notices in the area, Oyegunle sought the cooperation of the Chairman and Community Leaders to inform the perpetrators to desist from such acts, so that the Community can continue to enjoy more Government presence and infrastructural developments.
