The Lagos State Government, in collaboration with Asseco Software Nigeria, has commenced the training of students from Lagos Education District III on the use of drones through the programme “Steam Up Lagos”. 

Speaking at the commencement of the training programme held at Wahab Folawiyo Senior High School, Victoria Island, the Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary of Education District III, Dr. Olufunke Oyetola said the “Steam Up Lagos” is a Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics Education intervention under the auspices of the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Lagos State on Education. 

She stated further that the programme is been undertaken in partnership with Asseco Software Nigeria, an Information Technology and Services company, to train students of Education District III on the technical and practical aspects of using Drones. 

Dr. Oyetola applauded the organisers on the laudable initiative and enjoined the students to commit themselves to learning the technicalities of drone technology. 

The Initiator of the Programme and Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Lagos State on Education, Mrs. Adetola Salau explained that the initiative was designed to improve the technology template of the students as well as prepare them for various competitions and improve their skills for the future. 

She added that her office will continue to work and support the students through ‘Steam Up Lagos’ to create Apps and robotics, stressing the students will also be exposed to global trends pertaining to the initiative. 

The Chief Executive Officer of Assesco, Mr. Simon Melchior urged the students to be focused and work hard, noting that his team is ready to support students with exceptional talents in drone handling and operations. 

Mr. Anthony Salubi, a drone pilot and facilitator took over 50 students, selected across the District to participate in the training programme, through the technical and practical aspects of flying drones.
