JED Plc Plans to Increase Electricity Sales

The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Jos Electricity Distribution Company Plc, Mohammed Modibbo, has said the company is targeting over 500,000 new customers by the middle of 2018 to achieve 80 per cent connectivity milestone by 2019. This growth in customer base is part of JED Plc’s strategy to grow electricity sales and ensure the company’s long-term financial viability.

Modibbo stated this yesterday in Jos during a consultative forum attended by over 1,000 customers, where he warned that “any customer who steals electricity by bypassing the metres would be prosecuted according to the law.” He also said, “Mechanisms have been out in place to ensure sustenance of the customer data sanitisation and connection of about 178,675 new customers and a significant increase in the total number of customers to 472,000 as of September 30, 2017. That is why the successful implementation of the metering plan is of critical importance to us. JED Plc is committed to reducing the losses in its distribution network and improve its quality of electricity supply.”

He identified incidents of meter rejection by customers who believed that the meters being deployed were not properly calibrated and certified by NEMSA as one of the major challenges of JED Plc.
