Edo to seize 60 tax defaulters’ property, SAN kicks

The Edo State Government said on Tuesday that it has obtained a High Court order to seize the property of 60 defaulters of the Land Use Charge Act until the charges on the property are paid.
It also said it had resolved to clamp down on house owners hiding under the banner of the law to increase rents arbitrarily.

Addressing journalists on the level of compliance with the Land Use Act after the State Executive Council meeting in Benin, the Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Mr. Francis Evbuomwan, said the state government’s offensive against defaulters would continue.

The commissioner added, “The Edo State Government, through its agency, the Board of Internal Revenue, has successfully got a court order enforcing the Land Use Charge against 60 property.”

He said while this was just the first tranche of court orders, more were “still in the pipeline”.
