Association of Women Town Planners in Nigeria Lagos State Chapter Executive Committee Retreat

The Association of Women Town Planners in Nigeria Lagos State Chapter Executive Committee Retreat was held on Tuesday,March 21st, 2023 at Ostra Hotels Jobi Fele Way Alausa Ikeja

The purpose of the retreat was to equip the new executive committee members with the knowledge to take the Association to a greater level as Retreats are crucial to maintaining a positive workforce and turning things around. It brings leaders together to foster and strengthen the strategic leadership as a highly performing team.

The One day retreat was divided into morning and evening sessions. Three papers were presented during the morning session. Paper one titled: “Leadership Ethics and Corporate Responsibility” was presented by Lion Folasade Shotomide who explained that an effective leader is that person who operate on certain principle such as Integrity, trust, accountability, honesty transparency and further stated that an effective leader must have the capacity to carry along her team with clear goals and objectives.

Paper two titled: “Importance of Goal Setting” was presented by Tpl. Ruth Appiah Idowu who explained the different types of goal setting and encourage the Executive committee members to set their goals for the tenure and explained the goals must be SMART that is Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Timely

Paper Three was titled : “Effective Time Management and delivered” by Oseni-Ope, Bashiru Temitayo who discussed about key elements of time management which includes setting reminder for all your tasks, creating a daily planner, giving each task a time limit, blocking out distractions and establishing routine.

The Evening session commenced about 9pm exclusively by the Executive Committee members to deliberate on the training and to set goals for the Executive Committee Members as encouraged by the Facilitators.
Among the goal sets are: To Promote growth through Commitment and Collaboration; To Create awareness through Publicity on Print, electronic and Social Media; To Collaborate with Stakeholders like NITP, Other women Professional bodies, international and local women forum etc and To Foster Educational Advancement and Capacity Building

The Executive Committee Members Retreat were financed majorly by two
Sponsors, notable firms in the built environment such as Vista Plan Consulting and Bunmel Engineering Limited.

In conclusion, the retreat came to close on Wednesday, 22nd, 2023. Members were happy with the knowledge gained and the Chairperson admonished the members to effectively utilized the knowledge gained and ensure the goal set are achieved and promised to put in her very best in ensuring the success of the Association.
