An estate surveyor and valuer, Chief Kola Akomolede, has revealed plans to shed more light on some of the challenges confronting the housing sector, with a view to helping stakeholders find solutions to them.
Akomolede said the thoughts had been captured in a book entitled ‘40 years of housing discourse’, a compilation of some of his articles which had been published by different national newspapers in the past 40 years.
According to him, the book, which will be launched on August 19 in Lagos, covers all subjects relating to land and housing and other ancillary subjects such as land policy, land use decree, Land Use Charge, rent control laws, property taxes, and how to sell or buy properties.
Other areas, he said, the book would cover, included how to avoid fire in houses, how to avoid being duped by quack estate agents, property management and why we lack maintenance culture.
“It also covers other subjects like housing finance, low income housing, housing investment abroad and at home, shares versus property investment and treasury bills, origin of BQ, meaning of storey house, and building materials,” he said.
Akomolede, who is also the Principal Partner, Kola Akomolede and Co, said a former Minister of Health and Chairman of Juli Pharmacy, Prince Julius Adelusi-Adeluyi, would chair the book launch while a former Governor of Ogun State, Chief Olusegun Osoba, who wrote the forward of the book, would be a special guest of honour.
He added that the Managing Director of Wema Bank Plc, Mr Segun Oloketuyi, would be the chief launcher with the Chairman of Channels Television, Mr John Momoh, as the book presenter.
He added, “The review of the book will be done by a veteran journalist and a Co-founder of the Tell Magazine, author of several books and currently a columnist for the Guardian, Mr Dare Babarinsa. This will be followed by a panel of discussants that comprise Mr Femi Falana, SAN, a human rights lawyer; the National President of the Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers, Mr Rowland Abonta, and the Publisher/Editor in Chief of TW magazine and presenter of Seriously Speaking, a TV show, Mrs Adesuwa Onyenokwe.”
