80% of Villages in Nigeria Lack Electricity – CSOs

The network of Nigeria civil society organizations says over eighty percent of the country’s villages are not connected to electricity.

The network also identified poor infrastructure in the power sector as responsible for the failure to fully light up Nigeria. Spokesman of the network, Agbonkpolor Splendor said this at a citizen’s engagement campaign tagged “I stand with Nigeria”

The group also expressed worry over inadequate security around electrical installations across the country, especially in the Niger Delta. Nigeria currently generates over six thousand megawatts of electricity but far less power is available for consumption.
