Professionals Must Unite to Save Nigeria’s Infrastructure Challenge – Aduku

The Nigerian Institute of Architects’ distinguished lecture series which started with the Late Dr. Arc. Alex Ekwueme, GCON, FNIA, PPNIA in 2013 has become the key factor platform for agenda setting and industry development and resource management in the built environment. The lecture series is one of the most remarkable platforms that have been created by NIA, since the focus of Distinguished Lecture Series was borne out of great commitment of the Institute to raise debates on key issues affecting the nation’s built environment and proffer workable and sustainable solutions that will enhance the built environment, create national identity, develop human capacity and address the alarming unemployment and, for the  past presidents to impart the knowledge they have acquired over the years to members of the association.

 

The 4th Edition held in Abuja on Monday September 24, 2018 had a former minister of State, Federal Republic of Nigeria and the 14th President of the Institute Arc. Gabriel Yakubu Aduku, OON, FNIA, PPNIA as the guest lecturer.

Speaking at the event, Chief Arc. Gabriel Yakubu Aduku has enjoined Nigerian architects, the built environment professionals to come together to build and unite Nigeria through their acquired knowledge both as students and practitioners. This is in addition to his call for strong display of professionalism in every aspect of their field.

The annual event of the NIA which was well attended by dignitaries in the built society was aimed at celebrating the collective history, achievements and the projection of the Nigerian architect and architecture in the society.

 

The 4th edition was chaired by Mallam Ibrahim Aliyu, Chairman, Urban Shelters Limited and had in attendance the chief Host Arc. Festus Adibe Njoku, FNIA, president of the Nigerian Institute of Architects.  Other dignitaries at the event included, past presidents of the NIA led by Arc. Obong Victor Attah, FNIA, PPNIA former governor of Akwa Ibom State; Arc. Umaru Aliyu, FNIA, Arc. Jimoh Faworah, FNIA.  Others are Arc. Musa Sada, FNIA, former minister of mines and steel development, Arc. Echeono, FNIA, permanent secretary federal ministry of education; Engr. Adekunle Mokuolu, FNSE, president of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Engr. Kashim Ali, Arc. Mrs. El-Rufai MNIA, wife of the Kaduna State Governor, Mallam El-Rufai; President of COREN; the president of  Nigerian Institute of Building Bldr. Kenneth Nduka, FNIOB was also present.

Concluding his lecture, Arc. Gabriel emphasized on the need for promoting architectural works in forms of books and magazines in the mass media as a reference point for upcoming professionals in the field and advised that every form of quackery in the practice leading to building failures be curbed out.

The event also witness the cutting of birthday cake in honor of Mrs. Aduku who turned 70.
